About

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in two things: fitness and writing.

I’m Tom, owner of Gear Writers and Garage Gym Revisited.

Before launching these projects, I spent nearly a decade working as a university professor in the United States. I had the degrees, the research training, and the publications. I was writing all the time…just not about things that mattered to me.

So I changed direction.

Instead of producing another paper on “local government finance” or “higher education policy”, I decided to write about the world I lived in every day: training and fitness equipment.

That became Garage Gym Revisited.

Today, Garage Gym Revisited includes over 140 product reviews and nearly 300 total articles. It receives 15,000+ monthly visitors with minimal social media and fewer than 25 YouTube videos.

Engaging, well-written content drives traffic.

Ironically, my fitness-related work reaches more people in a week than my academic work did in my entire career.

From Home Gym Reviews to Helping Global Brands

Since starting GGR, I’ve worked with companies ranging from small factories entering US/EU markets for the first time to established brands you’ve definitely heard of.

Across all of them, the same problem appears again and again:

Strong equipment. Weak messaging

Otherwise excellent brands send an immediate signal to Western customers:

“We are not Rogue. We are not Titan. We are not Rep.”

Not because of product quality, but because of presentation, tone, and communication.

It’s frustrating to see so high-quality engineering suffer from low-effort messaging.

At Gear Writers, we exist to fix that.

Fitness Credentials & Training Background

Beyond writing, I have over 20 years of experience in general strength training, CrossFit, and home gym equipment testing.

  • ISSA Certified Personal Trainer
  • Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach

Our Mission

If your equipment deserves to be taken seriously, your messaging should reflect that.

We help brands present themselves with the clarity, confidence, and authority Western customers expect and trust.

That’s the work we do.

If this sounds like the direction your brand is ready for, we’re happy to help.
